Fix the leak before decorating
Allow the ceiling or wall time to dry.
Keep photographs and paperwork
Keep an invoice that says which part of the roof was repaired and what was done. A vague note saying only 'roof work' is not much help later.
Do not replace sound material just to make it match
A newer slate or tile can look different while still working perfectly well.
